Mani Ratnam’s film in 500 dancers

Recently, Mani Ratnam shot a song in Jhansi region with Abhishek Bachchan and 500 dancers. This song, penned by Gulzar, will serve as Abhishek’s introductory song in Ravan (also referred to as Ravana), which also stars Aishwarya Rai. Ganesh Acharya choreographed the dance sequence and supervised the filming of this song, which is claimed to be one of the most flamboyant and extravagant songs of recent times. Soon, a similar song will be shot in Tamil with Vikram.

Film critics say this song has enough grandeur to awe the viewers, but many still view ‘Sundari’ from Thalapathy (Rajinikanth) and ‘Chaya Chaya’ from Dil Se as some of the best songs of Mani Ratnam’s films.

Also, some film critics say that they sense a change in Mani Ratnam. Though the director has given extravagant songs in the past, his recent films including Guru were devoid of any. Despite agreeing that the director is doing justice to the script by adding such a song, they view this as Mani’s effort to make Ravan more impressive. Though Mani Ratnam is a director who gives his best to every film he directs, film critics believe he is paying special attention to his latest bilingual film. They add that all this is only making Ravan/ Ashokavanam richer and suspect Mani might come out with a trendsetter again – something like Nayagan (Kamal Haasan).
