Emmy awards 2009

Best drama nod for Big Love.
How I Met Your Mother finally breaks into the best comedy category.
• Jeremy Piven gets snubbed for best supporting actor, clearing the way for Neil Patrick Harris' long overdue win.
• Michael J. Fox up for guest actor for Rescue Me.
• Emmy voters make Howie Mandel pay for ruining last year's Emmys by snubbing him for best reality host. Even better: They gave the slot to Amazing Race emcee Phil Keoghan.
• Jim Parsons!
• Jane Krakowski, Tracy Morgan, and Jack McBrayer among 30 Rock's 172 nominations.
• Aaron Paul breaks through for Breaking Bad.
• Supporting comedy nods for two of my favorite Kristins (Wiig and Chenoweth).
• Elisabeth Moss!

Keep reading to find out which nominations/snubs made me want to hit someone in the face sad.

Yawns to:
Entourage gets a nod for its worst season yet.
• Tony Shalhoub.
• Anything involving Boston Legal.

I'm Super-Pissed About:
• Nothing for the final season of The Shield or Walton Goggins.
• Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton get the shaft again. Also unacceptable: No FNL for best drama.
• Nothing for Chuck or Zach Levi.
Big Bang Theory is a bust in comedy series category. (But woo-hoo Jim Parsons!)
• Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloe Sevigny, and Ginnifer Goodwin get no love for Big.
• Michael Urie's Ugly snub.

OK, that's my two cents' worth. Now it's your turn

Time to say Goodbye for Trisha-Nayanthara

Merely, Tollywood producers wouldn’t pay an actress a Crore for their best performance but for the more skin shows with micro-mini dresses they wear. Perhaps, Anushka had the fantastic physique of alluring looks as well proved herself to be an extraordinary actress with her recent release ‘Arundhathi’.

Alas! But do you think Nayanthara is on that level? Definitely not, the actress has no idea about a good performance is and her only hopes are brimming with bikinis with a clumsy facial expressions. Not alone her, even we expected a lot that Nayan would somehow make up for the flops delivered in her previous films. Alas! It’s an awful spell by the actress. In Malayalam flicks, the actress has delivered her best performance and she shouldn’t have tried on glamorous grounds.

Wanna hear what women audiences in theatres say while Nayanthara appears on the screens? ‘Why’s so pathetic in her appearance? Does she think herself to be Angelina Jolie? A worst performance with low neck-low hip is all what Nayan means’

It was the same audiences who welcomed the performance of yesteryear Late Actress Silk Smitha. She as the only actress in the history of Tamil Cinema who won the appreciations of men as well as women audiences…

It’s really distressing to see that today’s heroines are not worthy to appear even for a song on the screens. Despites boasting that she has overwhelmed with an extraordinary performance in ‘Abhiyum Naanum’, Trisha wasn’t up to level of mediocre. Trisha kindly watch the performance of Radhika, Revathi or at least Simran and learn something from them…

At the moment, it’s Thamannah who happens to be only actress fit on both homely and glamorous roles. Well, things would be fine if she doesn’t worst offers like ‘Padikadhavan’, where her standard would get lowered. Even if the film wasn’t a hit, her performance in ‘KD’ was laudable.

Finally, it’s all about Tollywood ladies Anushka and Thamannah set to rule Kollywood.

And all that we can say for Trisha, Nayan and Sneha is ‘Bye…Bye… Look out for some other businesses.

Big releases for Valentines Day

Valentine’s Day will have couple of most expected releases making its way on the screens. Till now, Surya starrer Ayan and Siva Manasula Sakthi are slated for releases while other flicks may too accompany them.

Sun Pictures bagging the rights of ‘Ayan’ has taken high initiatives about marketing the film to greater extent than its previous releases. The film directed by KV Anand recently had its audio launch at Sun Studios. 5 songs tuned by Harris Jayaraj are more splendiferous.

On the pars, SMS will have the audio launched on Jan 25 with Yuvan Shankar Raja scoring music. The film Jeeva in a new-dimensioned role of a peppy youngster… Apart from this, the most anticipated Bollywood flick ‘Billu Barber’ remake of Kuselan will release on the same occasion of Feb 11.

Ultimate star Ajith's big moustache

ajithManaging to evade the eyes of his numerous fans, Ajith managed to watch Villu at the Prarthana drive in theater last Sunday. Of course, he was careful enough not to get out of his car at any point of time which would have resulted in a mini mob forming instantaneously. After the movie he called up Vijay and talked about the positives in the movie for a long time. He specially mentioned the stunt scenes and asked Vijay to not get involved in too many risky fights.

Meanwhile, Ajith is also getting himself ready for Asal. He has reportedly gone in for a change in his look and is now sporting an extra large, thick moustache, something he has not tried before. Asal will be directed by Saran. Ajith-Saran's previous movie, Attagasam was a double action flick. This had created some speculation that even Asal would be on the same lines. However, Saran has said that this time round it will be just one Ajith.

Tamil hero to Kannada film industry

Prabhu is all set to make his Kannada film debut. The actor, our sources state, has flown down from the setsPRABHU of Mani Ratnam’s Ravan, which was being filmed in Kolkata, to Mysore to take part in shooting. The film, titled Boss, is directed by a debutant Raghu Raj and produced by Ramesh Yadav. Prabhu dons the role of an investigative officer in the film.

According to the producer, Prabhu did not want his debut in the Kannada film industry to be publicized until he actually took part in the shooting.

It is worth mentioning here that the acting legend and Prabhu’s father, late Sivaji Ganesan also starred in two Kannada films School Master and Makkala Rajya in the 1960s.

Vijay and Dhanush on the campaign trail

Vijay is aggressively marketing his Villu to its target audiences in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode in western Tamilnadu. He went to Adlabs Ragam complex in Coimbatore where he watched the film with his fans and responded to their queries.DHANUSHVIJAY

Vijay told his fans: “ Villu has taken the best 10-day opening in my entire film career. I had visited Coimbatore because the movie was doing extremely well here”.

When the fans pointed out the negative campaign unleashed by vested interests, the actor said it was all a part of the game. Vijay then proceeded to head to Trichy and Madurai and parts of south Tamilnadu to popularize the film.

Meanwhile, Dhanush's whose Padikathavan is also a super hit, went on a promotional tour to Trichy and Madurai. He has also been visiting the theatres in the area and meeting his fans and interacting with them.

Ilaya Superstar watches Padikkathavan

Desiring to get a first-hand experience of audience reactions to his Pongal release Padikkathavan, Dhanush watched it in Albert and Kasi theatres in Chennai yesterday. With news spreading that Dhanush would arrive in Albert theatre, fans thronged the theatre and there was chaos everywhere. Soon, Dhanush arrived and was greeted by the mad crowd, who had to be controlled by police. Inside, while watching the movie, Dhanush possibly felt the same pride and uneasiness due to the excessive public adulation and attention just as Barack Obama would have felt during his oath-taking ceremony! The audience cheered every dialogue the actor uttered in the film. They even presented an “extempore and frenzied” dance performance to the star when the song ‘Vela’ came up!

A delighted Dhanush shared some time with his fans, answering each and every question with great patience. Then Dhanush left the Albert premises amidst a loud cheer from his fans, who were chanting “Long live, Ilaya Superstar”!

Soon, he reached Kasi theatre and the scene was not much different there. And we mean it literally, because some fans who presented the “extempore” performance at Albert were seen here too!

Dhanush attributed Padikkathavan’s success largely to Sun Pictures, who took it to every corner of the state, and to its director Suraaj. He also pointed out that Vivek’s comedy and Tamannaah’s glamour added to the film’s popularity. Promising everyone that he will continue to give more action-comedies in the future, an excited Dhanush bid everyone goodbye.

Actress Trisha is on a roll as

Trisha is on a roll as this petite bundle of energy is back this weekend after her yearly holiday. Her popularity with her fans was never in doubt and her charm works with both the classes and masses.

As the industry goes gaga over the rest of the beauties making their mark of late, Trisha has quietly sneaked in the done her job. She has managed to survive successfully without bragging about her success like King in Telugu and the positive response she got for her Abhiyum Naanum.trisha

2009 has started off on a high note for Trisha as she has signed another Telugu biggie opposite Gopichand for which she has given bulk dates from February 10 for a whopping salary. Says Trisha: “I fell in love with the script where I have a very interesting role and decided to sign it”.

As far as reports in the media stating that she has signed Dhanush’s next film for director Vetrimaran, Trisha clarifies speaking from Gold Coast in Australia: “Nothing is concrete and it’s too early to talk about it. The offer came my way, but where do I have the time? I will be off to New Zealand for the song picturisation of Sarwam and then its two weeks for the Telugu version of Abhiyum Naanum in Hyderabad”.

And the big news is that Trisha is the new brand ambassador for Colgate for which she did photo and ad shoot which will be aired on television soon in Tamil and Telugu.

Actress Mumtaj reinvents herself

Now if you could take your eyes off that picture inset and read this! That is Mumtaj’s new look! No! Our design team is not playing its techno games with you! We are as surprised as you are! It is Mumtaj! With this makeover, an already beautiful Mumtaj is indescribably beautiful now!

With sheer hard work and guidance from eminent trainer K.P. Jayakumar, Mumtaj (also spelt Mumtaz) has toned up her muscles, shed those extra pounds and now looks “super sexy”. With this look, soon she is going to find a Bollywood producer who will make an exclusive film for her, maybe Ram Gopal Varma (remember Naach with sexy Anthara Mali in the lead). Kollywood filmmakers better hurry up!

How long will you keep looking at that little picture inset?! There are so many outstanding pictures of “the new” Mumtaj on our website.mumtaj

A few years ago, T. Rajendar discovered this beauty and immediately knew she will become a sensational heroine; she debuted in his grand movie Monisha En Monalisa. But her “incredible sexiness” proved to be her nemesis; Kollywood audiences began to see her as a sexy actress, and with plumpness being considered sexy in Kollywood, she even had to gain weight, which even choked her Bollywood dreams. Nevertheless, she became quite a sensational and important actress of Tamil Cinema. But tastes are changing and “size zero” and “six-packs”, terms never heard earlier in Kollywood, reverberate throughout it today. And Mumtaj thought this is the right time to show Kollywood what they missed so far! We could hardly wait to see this lady in her new avataar on the big screen!

With her drop-dead gorgeous looks, Mumtaj will always be one of cinema’s most beautiful women.

Vijay:No regrets for taking commercial route

Vijay is thrilled with the owning of his Pongal release 'Villu'. The actor, who talks very less and lets his movie do all the talking, is going gaga over his fans' reaction for the movie and is all set to commence his next 'Vettaikaran' soon.Villu Vijay

Clear on his thoughts, Vijay said, 'everyone says that Villu is a 'pucca' commercial entertainer. I am happy about it. I have no regrets over it. It is a route chosen by me clearly with conviction. Only after understanding my strength and weakness, I chose this path. At a time when I had mediocre outing with movies like 'Shahjahan', 'Vaseegara' and 'Puthiya Geethai', came 'Thirumalai'. It was followed by Ghilli and things changed for me'.

There is no looking back for me now. I love to go about my work with bundle of energy, he says and adds, 'Villu has brought joy for everyone of my fan. I am happy about it'.Vijay

One song is TENscenes

Director KV Anand’s picturisation of songs in Ayan are said to be a highlight, reiterating the trend that cinematographers turned directors tend to take their songs more seriously. In this regard, the songs of his movie Ayan are said to be the highlight of the film and the audio was launched recently. But the director clarifies that the movie is not a love story.AYAN

Ayan is primarily an action flick. But the music has been so good that the romance portions have come out exceptionally well. One song in the film, which Harris Jayaraj took just a few minutes to compose tune for, conveys the romance that 10 scenes will actually take,” he explains.

Director Perarasu becomes a music director

Perarasu Seems like there’s no end to Perarasu’s confidence in himself! From writer to director and lyricist, he seems to have given everything a shot, with his acting too, not gone unnoticed. The latest buzz is that he will launch himself as a music director in his next film, titled Tiruthani, with Bharath in the lead. The director has confessed that he hasn’t fixed up a music director for the film with the hope that he can debut as a composer as well. With none of his recent films, Pazhani and Thiruvannamalai, making a mark at the box office, isn’t it better for the director to concentrate on his direction first?

Cheran:"My films have a role to play"

'My 'Pokkisham' is an analysis of the changing times and the difference it makes in a human being', says actor – director Cheran.cheran

'Pokkisham' is a period film that is set in 1970s and it chronicles the life of a youth. Padmapriya plays his ladylove in the movie, which is almost completed.

"My films are decided by the changing times. After completing 'Autograph', I was exposed to foreign films in an International film festival, which created an urge in me to do quality films. Then I made 'Thavamai Thavamirundhu'. Now I feel, 'Pokkisham' is an extension to it," says director Cheran.

He feels the audience has identified his real self with the role that he played in 'Mayakkannadi'. It was a movie with noble intentions, but lost out badly.

Expressing his happiness at some good movies being churned out in Tamil cinema, the director continues, 'there are a handful of good youngsters, who have forayed to Tamil cinema. They are coming out with excellent movies today. It is a healthy sign which should be graced with warmth'.

Pollaadhavan: Telugu remake realace's January 23rd

Pollaadhavan, a very good adaptation of The Bicycle Thief (1948) by Vittorio De Sica, starred Dhanush as a lower-middle class graduate whose life's ambition is to own a motorcycle and his actions when faced with the loss of his precious bike. Departing dramatically from the neo-realism of The Bicycle Thief, Pollaadhavan captured reality as witnessed by residents of North Chennai.

Directed by Vettrimaran and produced by Kathiresan, this film successfully mixed commercial elements with art-house ideals and was well appreciated by lay audiences as well as critics. Now Gemini Kiran has bought the rights to Pollaadhavan's script and plans to remake it Telugu with Varun Sandesh and Neha Sharma. Sandeep Gunnam Reddy, Gangaraju Gunnam's son is making his directorial debut.

This film's launch is planned on January 23rd

Slumdog Millionaire is dubbed into Tamil "Naanum Kodiswaran"

The most talked about film of the decade Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire is going to be dubbed into Tamil and is likely to be titled Naanum Kodiswaran (I’m also a millionaire)!

Famous voices from Kollywood will be used for the Tamil dubbing. The film which won four Golden Globes, including Best Music Score for A.R Rahman has whipped up mass hysteria in Tamilnadu. And the buzz that Rahman will be the first Indian likely to get this years Oscar for his musical score in the film has made it red hot in the trade.

The English version of the film will be having a red carpet premiere at Sathyam Cinemas on January 22, Thursday night with some celebrities attending. Already the advance booking in five Chennai screens is astonishing. Please note only the English version is releasing and that too only in Chennai in Tamilnadu!

The dubbing rights of the film have been purchased by a local film producer for a rumoured Rs 70 lakhs (a record prize for an off-beat film). Since there is so much hype and curiosity around the film, the Tamil version is expected to do well in a state where only action or special effects English films do decent business.

According to Sunil Narvekar of Chayalakshmi Creations who are distributing the English version of the film on behalf of 20th Century Fox in the state: " The buzz on SM is big and since Rahman is well known and a phenomenon, there is a lot of inquiries coming from interior Tamil Nadu. There is romance, song, dance, and drama, typical Indian elements which will work with our audiences."

Bollywood baddies throng towards Hollywood

After actresses, who migrated from Bollywood, it is turn our turn to welcome baddies from Mumbai. A host of actors, who do negative roles in Hindi, are making a beeline from Mumbai to Chennai.

Akashdeep Sehgal, who is a known face in Bollywood and for being part of several Sans – Bahu Serials, is the villain in 'Ayan' along with Suriya and Tamanna.

Milind Soman, a popular model, who acted in Goutham Menon's 'Pachaikili Muthusaram', is doing a similar role in Lingusamy's 'Paiyya' starring Karthi and Tamanna.

Don't forget the likes of Atul Kulkarni, Shayaji Shinde among others, who appeared in the recently released 'Padikathavan'.

Analyzing the trend, a popular director said, "There is dearth for villains in Tamil cinema. They are more focused on doing character roles and few of them have ventured to do lead roles too. Left with no other option, we have been forced to bring people who play negative roles from Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh.'

We might be seeing more of imported bad guys from Telugu and Hindi in the upcoming days.

writer Sujatha's story comes to celluloid

Movies based on novels are rare in Kollywood. Director Gandhi Krishna has directed a movie that has been inspired by a novel written by late writer Sujatha.

Produced by Aascar V Ravichandran, the flick is titled as 'Anandha Thandavam' which is based on Sujatha's novel titled 'Pirivom Sandhippom'.

Says the director: 'the story was written by late Sujatha about 25 years ago and I fell flat for it. I've changed it a little to suit the modern times. I've got a wonderful producer and a committed cast and crew.'

Sujatha had actually penned the dialogues for the film, and a new boy Siddharth is making his debut as the hero with Tamanna as the leading lady.

'I consider 'Anandha Thandavam' as my first film and it is a dedication to the talented writer Sujatha'.

'Prakash has come up with catchy melodies', he added.

The timing could not have been better….it is the Pongal season and a spectacular display of traditional drums amalgamated with cheerful fans made it a very special homecoming for the incredibly talented A. R. Rahman. What's more….the fans could not have enough of Rahman….they actually formed an entourage all the way to his house.

An elated fan said, 'Rahman has won the Golden Globe. I have no doubt he is going to win the Oscar for 'Slumdog Millionaire''.

'Slumdog Millionaire' was directed by Briton Danny Boyle and won four Golden Globes (Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Director and of course Best Original Music).

nayanthara

tamanna

Nayanthara flew in from Kerala where she was shooting for the Malayalam film and after a live programme on a television channel, she headed straight to Kamala theatre in Vadapalani, a Vijay stronghold to watch Villu.

Nayan entered the hall after the film started, so nobody knew she was there at the screening. However, during the interval people recognized her and by the time the film was over the word went around and her security men had a tough time in controlling the huge crowd that had gathered to see her.

Tamannaah on the other hand, flew down from Mumbai and went staright to Albert theatre in Egmore, to watch Padikkathavan, first day first show. She was seeing her own film in a theatre for the first time, and really had a ball.

Tammu says she enjoyed every moment of this new experience of watching a film with a live audience who seems to be freaking out on the film. She was happy that nobody recognized her till she got into her car.

Director Ameer, who is acting in Yogi as he says, ' I was forced to take this decision because no prominent actors agreed to do my film. I have taken this as a challenge and doing this film'.

Echoing the same is cinematographer – director Thangar Bachchan. 'I chose to act in 'Chidambarathil Oru Appasamy' out of anger. I went from pillar-to-post asked several heroes to do my film. No one bothered to act. Finally, I decided to give it a shot.'

They echoed that the artistes should do quality films for helping the industry gain the goodwill worldwide and also reach out to genuine film-lovers.

No far behind is director Mysskin. The man, who came out with movies like 'Chithiram Pesuthadi' and 'Anjathey', is enacting the lead role in his next venture 'Nandalala'.

He says, 'the story has no scope for heroes to perform or an image kind of role. Hence I came back disappointed whenever I approached actors to act in this project. I was discouraged by many. I have decided to take it up as a challenge and prove to everyone that meaningful cinema will succeed'.

Jackie Chan will start in June!

This is the news that is reverberating throughout Kollywood. Aascar Ravichandran is ready for his next film, which will have his dear friend Jackie Chan in the lead and filming will start in June! The day its filming begins will be a moment of pride for all Indians – for Aascar Ravichandran will be the first Indian to make a film with Jackie Chan, a legendary actor who added a new dimension to Cinema, a perfect blend of awe-inspiring daredevil stunts and slapstick comedy!jackie chan

Kollywood grapevine says that Ravichandran also plans to include a famous Bollywood actor in this film and talks are on in this regard. We will bring you more updates on this.

Aascar Ravichandran is definitely one of the best showmen in the world. The way Ravichandran launched the audio of Dasavathaaram shook the world. With Jackie Chan as the chief guest and all the grandeur, it even eclipsed grand events like Oscars or our own IIFA!

Unfortunately, after this event, Ravichandran got himself entangled in a legal battle with Oscar Academy, who found his logo resembling the famous Oscar award memento and objected to the usage of the term “Oscar Productions”. And there are many who gossip about “Oscar Productions” becoming “Aascar Productions” after this mega event. Unfortunately, they are only looking at the smaller picture and missing the bigger one. A producer grabbed the attention of the whole world, including Oscar Academy with just the audio launch of his film!!!

Boy! It is hard to imagine the wonders that stalwarts Jackie Chan and Aascar Ravichandran will create when they work together!

Ananda Thandavam released in the second week of Feb

Producer Aascar Ravichandran recently announced that Ananda Thandavam (also spelt as Aananda Thaandavam), which stars Tamannaah and is directed by Gandhi Krishna, will be released in the second week of February.

Many film critics consider Ananda Thandavam, which is Gandhi Krishna’s adaptation of Sujatha’s novel “Pirivom SanthippomTAMANNA”, a very important film in Tamannaah’s career, as it is heroine-centric and has a beautiful story. The film is about a young girl whose profession in the field of virtual reality and special effects field takes her to the US. After spending quite some time there, she realizes that her life has been rendered too monotonous by the mechanized American lifestyle. That is when she longs to return to India. A newcomer Siddharth is the male lead.

Tamannaah is the biggest attraction of this film, looking absolutely gorgeous in a role that gives her scope to display myriad expressions. Like the critics say, Ananda Thaandavam will definitely boost her career, which is flourishing already.

Extensively shot in the US, the film also stars Rukmini (of Bommalattam fame), Bala Singh, Kitty, Madanbob, and “Special Effects” Venky. Music is by G.V. Prakash.

A journey with Ilayaraja

Did the heading give you a feeling of déjà vu?! That is because you must have seen this line in Nandalala’s (also spelt as Nandhalala) promos in today’s newspapers. That is how Mysskin prefers to call his film!

Nandalala is a very beautiful tale of two unlikely friends, a 30-year-old demented man and an 8-year-old boy, who go searching for their respective mothers. Their experiences form the crux of the tale. The film is quite emotional and will tug at the heartstrings of a viewer and its effect will linger in him or her for long,” says Mysskin. “For a film like this, I cannot rely only on acting. It has to be complemented by perfect background music. Realizing this, Ilayaraja has given a beautiful musical composition which has increased the film’s appeal multifold. Take away Ilayaraja’s music and Nandalala will lose its appeal and half its emotions will evaporate. I cannot even think about Nandalala without Ilayaraja’s music. Ilayaraja plays an important role in this tale about the journey of two unlikely friends.”

Nandalala has three songs, one sung by the maestro himself and a 40-minute climax sans any dialogues, entirely depending on the actors’ reactions and Ilayaraja’s background score and re-recording! As director Mysskin’s insisted, Ilayaraja has scored a symphony for the film’s background score employing several symphony specialists flown in from Hungary.

Mysskin is absolutely correct when he says Ilayaraja’s music is the heart of Nandalala. But one can only say the director is humbly downplaying his own role in the film. As Ilayaraja puts it, the story of the film, something never heard of before, inspired an equally stupendous musical composition from him.

Through the viewpoint of a demented man and a child, certainly the director will bring out the ironies of life. This never-done-before experiment will definitely make everyone introspective. Nandalala will give one an altered state of mind.

PS: Though the film will feature only three songs, the music album will have five songs.

Indira Vizha is not Disclosure

namithaDirector Rajeshwar, who has completed the shoot and dubbing for his film, Indira Vizha, starring Srikanth, Namitha and debutant Hemamalini, has clarified that his movie is original and not an adaptation of the Hollywood flick Disclosure or its Hindi adaptation Aitraaz.

The movie’s story, however, bears a striking resemblance to Disclosure and centres on Srikanth, an employee of a TV channel, whose boss turns out to be Namitha, his ex girl friend.

Pongal day releases

Due to lack of theatres and distributors Vijaykanth’s Engal Asan has been postponed. Villu released on Monday and now Padikkathavan and Kathal Na Summa Illa are the only Pongal day releases.kathalna summa illai

2009 Pongal in terms of number of releases is the lowest in many years. All the main theatres in major towns preferred Vijay’s Villu and Dhanush’s Padikkathavan. The third preference was for AVM’s A Aa E Ee and last was for Raj TV’s Kathal Na Summa Illa which has no theatres in many centers.

The other films which had announced Pongal release like Engal Asan, Guru En Aalu, were struggling to get theatres and distributors. So finally wiser council prevailed and they have postponed their struggle to another day.

Why Actress Divya denied Vijay film?

Actress Divya aka 'Kuthu' Ramya hogged limelight playing a powerful role in 'Varanam Ayiram'. Recently, she denied to do an item number in Vijay's 'Villu'.

She says, 'it is my policy not to appear in item numbers. I will never do it at any cost. This was the only reason behind my denial to appear for a song sequence in 'Villu'.ramya

Stating that she however would like to do Vijay's heroine, the actress claimed herself a fan of the actor. 'I will certainly not reject had I come across an offer to play Vijay's ladylove,' she said.

Pongal, the harvest festival of Tamils

Pongal, the harvest festival of Tamils, is normally associated with grand celebrations. Kollywood too is not far behind as they join the celebrations in the only way known to them – coming out with new releases.

However this Pongal the Tamil film industry is witnessing the release of just three films. Though a half-a-dozen films were in the fray, many backed out at the last moment leaving just three in the race.

Howevillu vijayver a quick look at Pongal releases reveal that the competition is not going to be easy, as biggies like Vijay (Villu) and Dhanush (Padikadhavan) are in the fray. Besides, Raj TV's Kadhalna Summa Illai too is getting released this week Villu

Villu is a rollicking entertainer, says director Prabhudeva. Starring Vijay, Vadivelu and Nayanthara in the lead, the movie has Vijay playing a dual role (father and son) and actress Kushboo appears in a song that goes 'Hey Rama, Hey Rama.'

Vijay and Prabhudeva team up after the success of Pokkiri. According to Prabhudeva, it would be a James Bond -like movie in Tamil. Everything is stylish about the film, he says.

The cinematography is by Ravi Varman, music by Devi Sri Prasad and editing by Kola Baskar. According to Prabhudeva, 'the co-operation and dedication shown by Vijay amazed me. He was there for everything.'

The much-awaited film being made at a huge cost, 'Endhiran' went to floors a couple of months ago. The movie was shot in Peru and adjoining countries besides a few portions in Goa.

At Vellore on Sunday, scenes involving a cultural festival in the college were shot. Rajinikanth appeared as scientist and Aishwarya Rai as college student. Security was tight in and around the place and only students and faculty of the college with identity cards were allowed inside the premises. General public were blocked a few meters away by the police.

Melodious Nandalala music releasing on Pongal

Mysskin’s Nandalala is about to showcase a fresh story that had never been filmed in Tamil cinema. Specialty of Nandalala is that it will not be the regular run-of-the-mill tale. It has not even filmed on basis of bankable instinct. All that Nandalala depends upon is the music of Ilayaraja. Director Mysskin is very keen about the music in all his movies especially background score. Illayaraja has composed the audio track as well as the background music of Nandalala. Imagine Illayaraja’s music combined with Yesudas vocal is sure going to be the best melody score after a very long time. There is also a gypsy song performed by the native itself.
Get ready to be hypnotized by Nandalala music on Pongal.

Mani Ratnam’s film in 500 dancers

manirathnam

Recently, Mani Ratnam shot a song in Jhansi region with Abhishek Bachchan and 500 dancers. This song, penned by Gulzar, will serve as Abhishek’s introductory song in Ravan (also referred to as Ravana), which also stars Aishwarya Rai. Ganesh Acharya choreographed the dance sequence and supervised the filming of this song, which is claimed to be one of the most flamboyant and extravagant songs of recent times. Soon, a similar song will be shot in Tamil with Vikram.

Film critics say this song has enough grandeur to awe the viewers, but many still view ‘Sundari’ from Thalapathy (Rajinikanth) and ‘Chaya Chaya’ from Dil Se as some of the best songs of Mani Ratnam’s films.

Also, some film critics say that they sense a change in Mani Ratnam. Though the director has given extravagant songs in the past, his recent films including Guru were devoid of any. Despite agreeing that the director is doing justice to the script by adding such a song, they view this as Mani’s effort to make Ravan more impressive. Though Mani Ratnam is a director who gives his best to every film he directs, film critics believe he is paying special attention to his latest bilingual film. They add that all this is only making Ravan/ Ashokavanam richer and suspect Mani might come out with a trendsetter again – something like Nayagan (Kamal Haasan).

Sun Pictures Police Police

Sun Pictures, a division of Sun Network, has reportedly bagged the theatrical and satellite rights of Srikanth and Prithviraj starrer 'Police Police'.

The film directed by Manmohan brings together Srikanth and Prithviraj after 'Kana Kanden'. It is said that Sun Pictures will simultaneously release the film in Tamil also, however in a different title.

Says the director, 'The plot is about the different views of two police officers. The system they work in is the same yet how they differ in undertaking different routes to reach their goal is the story line of Police Police'

Kushboo dances Kovai Sarala sings,

Vijay's introduction in every film starring him has been quite dramatic and 'Villu' would be no exception. Interestingly though it is comedienne Koval Sarala who has lent her voice for the introduction song announcing the arrival of 'Villu'.

Kushboo has danced in this intro song and director Prabhu Deva seems mighty happy about that. Said an elated Prabhu Deva, 'Kushboo had never worked on a Sunday for nine years. But then when we wanted her to perform on a Sunday, she obliged. I am very thankful to her for doing the song'.

Efforts have been taken to ensure that Vijay's introduction in the film is very dramatic. Moreover the action scenes have been worked out to such an extent that Prabhu Deva compares 'Villu' with that of a James Bond film.

'Villu' releases on the day.
