The latest buzz is that Rajinikanth would meet his fans on 15th October.

Meanwhile, mounting more pressure on Rajinikanth to start a political outfit, his fans convened a meeting in Chennai on Sunday to discuss their future strategy and threatened to go on a fast unto death until he forays to politics.

Over the last month or so, several thousand fans of Rajinikanth have been urging him to take a plunge into the politics.

However the actor has been maintaining a discreet silence. A few days ago, a section of fans of Rajinikanth floated a political outfit in Coimbatore.

Meanwhile, the office-bearers of the fans association from various districts including Madurai, Thiruvallur, rajini and Kanchipuram attended a meeting in Chennai today to discuss their future course of action.

An office-bearer of the association said, "We want to convey our desire to him. We are not eyeing a plum post in case he ventures into politics.”

The forest officials found that the director had constructed temporary thatched huts in prohibited areas inside the forest. After the forest department found the violation, they ordered the shooting to be stopped.

The film unit claims that they had put up temporary huts to protect their costly equipments from the incessant rains in the area. The Tamil version features Vikram, Prithviraj and Priyamani among others.

Surya’s movie Vaaranam Aayiram which is also dubbed in Telugu is titled as Surya S/O Krishna. The Telugu version audio launch function took place in Hyderabad. The music is scored by Harris Jayaraj.

Gave away the awards

Though there are myriad popular awards, which elevate the status of their winners, film critics’ award is the one everyone will look forward to win because this award recognises films or artists for their value and work and not for their popularity amongst the filmgoers. The annual film critics’ awards for the year 2007 were conferred on October 12th. Ace director K. Balachander was the chief guest and gave away the awards, and while speaking on the occasion, he urged the filmmakers to try their hands at different types of subjects and to explore new ideas.

'Sneha' Nehru Indoor Stadium on her birthday

At a time most stars choose to celebrate their birthdays either with a huge bash or a quiet evening with family and friends, Sneha had something special planned for her birthday. She was at the Nehru Indoor Stadium on her birthday yesterday to support the cause of Arthritis awareness at the World Arthritis Day Charity Concert organized by Soundarapandian Bone and Joint Hospital. She spoke about the importance of healthy living to keep joint pains at bay.

Dressed in a golden yellow saree, she was cheered by all those present. She took to the mike as a fish to water and even sang a few lines of some of her hit songs. Swarnamalya, the MC of the evening, then invited Sneha to cut a chocolate cake to celebrate her birthday. Also present were Prem G. and Vaibhav, stars of the recent superhit Saroja.

It is gratifying to see stars who are socially active and not just glitz and glamour. Great going by the lovable Sneha, and happy birthday!

Vadivelu's house under attack

Comedian Vadivelu’s house was attacked yesterday. Twenty to thirty men came by Vadivelu’s house in motorbikes and throw stones.


Chennai police registered a FIR against DMDK leader, Vijayakanth and forty others for the attack on Sunday around 10:40. Vedavelu and his family did not get hurt, however their windowpanes were damaged.


Vadivalu has clashed with Vijayakanth on September 12 2007 and he is due to appear in court on Monday.


The DMDK spokesperson says this is an attempt to pass off the case against him onto the party leader and they would never get involved in such violence.

Sakkarakkatti gets U certificate

The Censor Board has cleared Sakkarakkatti (starring Shantnoo Bhagyaraj, Ishitha and Vedhika) with a U certificate and without even a single cut.

Sakkarakkatti is the debut vehicle for hero Shantnoo (Bhagyaraj's son) and director Kala Prabhu (Kalaipuli Dhanu's son).

Sakkarakkatti became famous for its song 'Taxi Taxi', which was an instant hit. Its sheen and popularity even compelled the filmmakers to reshoot the original video. A.R. Rahman, before starting to compose for this film, promised that his work in this film will make everyone undergo the same pleasant feeling they had when they listened to him for the first time in Roja. Well, the maestro has fulfilled his promise.

Sakkarakkatti will be a wholesome youthful entertainer with its peppy music by A.R. Rahman, incredibly beautiful narration by Kala Prabhu, fresh and young faces and excellent cinematography by Andrew.

Thiru. Manasu' – A mystical entertainer

Based on real, mythical narratives recorded on palm leaves, a film called 'Thiru. Manasu' is being directed by Anushankar starring debutants Mohan Krishna and Gayathri. The crew had recently completed a 20-day shoot which proved to be challenging in the dense forests of Kodaikanal.

It has been a long time desire for the director to come up with a film with such an interesting storyline. He even is in the habit of preserving real manuscripts in his house.

The manuscript in one such palm leaf reads like this "With stern food fasting and by chanting the mantras inscripted on the palm leaves, one can change their guise." Incidentally this forms the crux of Thiru.Manasu.
This film that revolves around mystical and paranormal powers is being made at a brisk pace with a view to enthrall audiences. A film specializing in horror, striving to elicit fear and terrific responses should be a welcome addition to Tamil Cinema.

Varanam Aayiram
The audio of ‘Varanam Aayiram’ will be launched on the 24th of September at Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai. The audio rights have been acquired by Sony-BMG.

‘Varanam Aayiram’ starring Suriya has musical score by Harris Jayaraj.

The movie directed by Gautham Menon features Simran, Divya Spandana and Sameera Reddy as the heroines. Two songs are expected to be premiered at the audio launch and the cast and crew of the film in their entirety will be present.

'Varanam Aayiram' appears to be a film that will showcase Suriya's talents as a flamboyant character artiste.

The movie has been in the making for over a year and will release on the 28th of October.

Kamal Haasan's 'Marma Yogi' to kickstart

'Marma Yogi' is garnering every bit of attention ever since it was announced and the latest news is that the film will start shooting in October in Mumbai. The film will be directed by Kamal Haasan and stars Trisha, Shriya, Hema Malini and Venkatesh apart from the versatile actor himself. The film is to be made in Tamil, English, Telugu and Hindi simultaneously.

'Dasavatharam' opened across many theaters with mixed reviews but then has made it quite majestically to hundred days. Adding to this majestic appeal is the way 'Marma Yogi' is being planned.

Reports indicate that the Red Camera will be used and a Hollywood cinematographer has been roped in. Kamal Haasan and make-up are becoming synonymous these days and one can expect a flamboyant approach with this period film as well. A team of make-up specialists from Hollywood will be part of the team. A new technique called 'Spray Make-up' is being introduced to Indian Cinema with this film.

An extravagant Project Launch for the film is expected to take place in Mumbai after which shooting will commence. The team would fly to many parts of the world including Sweden and of course many parts in India. Set in the 7th century AD, 'Marma Yogi' is expected to showcase a slice of life as it happened then including the diction and social themes.

Kamal Haasan is known to be quite a perfectionist and with his experience, one can expect a stunning affair.

Another huge factor that has to be spot on for 'Marma Yogi' is the costumes part. Being a period film authenticity will have to be maintained in order to be accepted and Gauthami has been assigned this responsibility.

Mariya Manohar has entered the hearts of every one who listened to the music of Nayagan. His popularity is growing day by day in Kollywood, so it is natural he seems to be getting a new offer every day. Manohar had always been musically inclined; even as a child, he had a clear idea that he would be a music composer when he grew up. But Manohar’s new attempt will be Kollywood’s first complete hip-hop song.

By the way, what defines a hip-hop song best? Well, hip-hop isa rhythmic style of “speaking or chanting” over matching or backing background beats, which could even be a song but it should not interrupt the rhythmic speech, or rap as it is called; the focus remains on the rap. In our industry, the old style of intercepting a song with jazzy rap is still being followed.

The most famous hip-hop songs that hooked our attention are: Fifty cents’ 'Inda Club' and Truth Hurts’ 'Addictive' which featured Lata Mangeshkar’s 'Kaliyon ka chaman' in the background. Later, Meghna Naidu swerved sexily to its Indian version and ensconced herself in everyone’s heart.

Prabhu and Karthik in Mani Ratnam film

While these 2 films are still unfinished, he has agreed to direct a film ‘16.' The title has a lot to do with the story. 16 is the ultimate teenage year and the film is about a love budding at '16.' Boomika, Baby Siva of ‘Chennai 600028' plays the hero role. Newcomer Madhushalini is the heroine. Sabapathy's usual composer Yuvan Shankar Raja composes the music. Na Muthukumar has penned the lyrics for all the songs. The shooting will commence shortly.

Ramarajan's 'Medhai'


At one time, Ramarajan almost gave himself the build up of the next CM. [Ramarajan] He is nowhere near that now. At the most, he speaks on the dais for the ADMK. His political career is hanging by a string but his love to act again in films still has him in its grip. Kalaimagal Kalaikoodam has come forward to make his dream come true. Yes, after a long time, Ramarajan is to act in a film produced by Kalaimagal Kalaikoodam. The film's directed by NTG Saravanan. Earlier, every Ramarajan film also featured Goundamani and Senthil. Now these two are not in the field at all. But the film necessarily needs the comedy element. So, Vadivelu has been signed on for the purpose. It was easy to find the producer and comedian, but a heroine is hard to come by. The very mention of Ramarajan sends them running! So, they are trying to find a newcomer to star with Ramarajan in this film titled 'Medhai.'

Vijayakanth : Vikraman


According to director Vikraman, Vijayakanth would surely be in the reckoning for a national award for his acting in 'Mariyadhai.' The film is produced by D Siva for Amma Creations, and directed by Vikraman. He teams up with Vijayakanth after 'Vaanathai Pola' and the actor has a dual role in this. Vijayakanth plays both father and son role. Meena and Meera Jasmine pair with Vijayakanth. Ambika pairs with the father Vijayakanth. Ramesh Khanna, Shanmugaraj and Sampath also feature in the film. Camera is by Andrew, music by Vijay Anthony. Story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are by Vikraman. The film was launched yesterday at Chennai. Vijayakanth addressed the press on the occasion. "This has evolved as a totally rural story. I am doing the dual role of father and son. Vikraman's policy is to write the story and then hunt for the suitable hero. But he has evolved 'Mariyadhai' specially for me. This is a good story so I postponed doing 'Virudhagiri' and will act before that in Vikraman's direction." "Vijayakanth should have received an award for 'Vanathai Pola' itself. Due to certain reasons he did not. But he is sure to get an award for 'Mariyadhai,'" said Vikraman with confidence.

'Kadhalil Vizhundein' has pushed other films to reign supreme in the Chennai box office. Seeing the publicity given by Sun Pictures for 'Kadhalil Vizhundein' the Tamil film world is astounded.
